After the season, the league joined the FA of Ireland and was restructured. To qualify for the 2007 league, the clubs' 4-year record and an off-the-field assessment were taken into account. Following this assessment, the FAI awarded Galway United rather
than Dundalk a place in the 2007 top level.
Limerick have not been granted a license for the 2007 season. The FAI admitted two replacement clubs (for Dublin City and Limerick) at the second level, namely:
